Why Does My Simplisafe Doorbell Keep Ringing?

You might have bought your Simplisafe doorbell as a smart solution, but now it’s annoying you with the constant ringing sound, even though there’s nobody at the door. You’re probably wondering why this happens and how you can fix this problem.

Your Simplisafe doorbell keeps ringing because a button might be stuck, the device detects pedestrians, or it’s experiencing a glitch. Additionally, there might be problems with the WiFi signal. You can try securing the button, checking the settings, and moving the router to fix these issues.

Read the rest of this article to learn more about what causes your Simplisafe doorbell to keep ringing. I’ll also show you different ways to fix this problem with detailed steps.

1. The Chime Button Is Stuck

Before you look for more complicated reasons, look for the most basic ones. The button on your Simplisafe doorbell might be stuck or pressed down, and that could cause it to ring constantly.

Sometimes the doorbell might not be installed correctly in the first place, while other times, it can get damaged along the way, causing components to slip or loosen. This may be triggering the chime of your doorbell often, which would explain why it rings all the time with no easily discernable reason.

How To Fix

A stuck button is not a major problem and usually has an easy fix. All you need is some time, patience, and a decent screwdriver.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Remove the lock crew using your screwdriver. You can find the lock crew at the bottom of the panel.
  2. Pull the doorbell from its mounting bracket.
  3. Open the front panel and check the button. It should stay in place but not be stuck in any one position.
  4. Also, check for loose connections and tighten the terminal screws.

Once you’re done, close the panel and slide it back on the mounting bracket. Test your doorbell, then wait to see if the problem persists. If it does, the issue might be elsewhere.

2. The Doorbell Camera Detects Pedestrians

As a “smart” doorbell, Simplisafe has options to alert you whenever someone is at the door or close enough to the door. While this can be helpful in some instances, in others, it can become a problem — especially if your front door is close to the sidewalk.

It’s possible that the option of detecting most people walking outside your house at a certain distance is in the settings by default or has been changed by mistake. Don’t worry; you can easily change it back.

How To Fix

Changing the settings of your Simplisafe doorbell is very easy. All you need to do is designate the area that the doorbell should scan to detect people.

Naturally, you only want that area to be only a few feet away from home, so you’re only alerted when necessary — like when someone is breaking into your house

To change the settings:

  1. Open your Simplisafe doorbell app.
  2. Select Cameras and then Settings (small gear icon)
  3. In settings, select “Video Doorbell and then tap Motion Detection.
  4. Go to the bottom of the menu, where you can see a feed.
  5. Choose the areas that you think the doorbell shouldn’t scan.

This should fix the ringing problem if motion detection settings are the cause of it.

3. The Doorbell Is Receiving a Weak WiFi Signal

Your Simplisafe doorbell works using a WiFi signal. Depending on where the doorbell is located, it might have difficulties connecting to your WiFi, resulting in continuous disconnections and reconnections.

Understandably, this isn’t ideal for the device and may cause issues like the doorbell ringing constantly.

The distance between your doorbell and router should be something to consider as soon as you get the Simplisafe doorbell if you don’t want to run into problems in the future. Additional factors to consider include materials or objects that can interfere with your WiFi signal, like metal and brick walls.

How To Fix

If your Simplisafe doorbell keeps ringing because of the distance from the router, then moving the router would be one solution. Try to find a location for the router that is reasonably close to the doorbell. You should also ensure there aren’t any obstructions that could weaken the WiFi.

If moving the router is impossible, you can try to move your doorbell, placing it in another position that can receive a better signal. However, the options are admittedly limited when it comes to a place for your doorbell.

Although it might cost a bit more, a relatively more reliable option is to buy a WiFi extender. It allows you to extend your router’s reach without the need to move the router or the doorbell.

4. Software or Hardware Issues

If you can’t find any other reason why your doorbell keeps ringing, there’s a chance that your device has run into a glitch or there’s a problem with the hardware. Like any other device, smart doorbells can suffer from glitches and bugs once in a while.

Glitches occur commonly and suddenly, and can seemingly be random. While reaching out to the company for a fix is usually the best option, there are a few other methods you could try.

How To Fix

A common way of fixing glitches in any device is to reset the device. You can try restarting your doorbell or doing a hard reset. Restarting will turn it off and then on again without losing settings, while a hard reset will return it to the original settings.

To restart your Simplisafe doorbell, press the small reset button on the back and then put the device back on the mounting bracket to reboot.

A hard reset involves pressing the large button on the back of the doorbell and holding it for a few seconds.  Then you can put it back on the mounting bracket.

If none of these solutions work, you should contact Simplisafe Product Support.

Summary

There are a few problems that can cause your Simplisafe doorbell to keep ringing for no reason. The components on the doorbell panel may be stuck or loose, the WiFi may be weak, or the doorbell may be set to detect pedestrians. There’s also a chance that it’s simply a glitch.

Depending on the issue, you can try several solutions. You could try opening the doorbell panel to fix the button or any loose wires.

Alternatively, you can change the settings to detect only people approaching your house, move your router, or reset your doorbell.
